A highly anticipated yearly event, I was lucky enough to attend Durham University’s Law Ball for the third time this year.
For those unaware of the University’s penchant for exciting and glamorous balls, they’re held throughout the year by various societies, groups and colleges and are a chance to dress up, enjoy a delicious meal and dance the night away with your friends. With most colleges holding a ball per term, the opportunities to attend one are bountiful.
Held at the beautiful venue of Beamish Hall this year with a black tie dress code, the theme was ‘Once Upon a Time’. Adorned with an array of themed treats and sponsored goodie bag, the decoration of the venue was stunning with an admirable attention to detail. We even all had hand-painted place names for the table-so cute!
Upon arrival, we were welcomed by a champagne reception and the opportunity to mingle with classmates and of course to take the all important selfies by the twinkling Christmas tree as a memento of the night. We were then treated to a delicious three-course meal and wine to accompany it, an ideal opportunity to relax and have a chat with friends amongst a myriad of speeches from the Exec.
Durham University balls are renowned for their amazing Ents (more commonly known as entertainment) and this one was no exception. After our meal, there was a variety of funfair rides outside, retro sweet and refreshment stalls and entertainment such as stretched mirrors and a photo booth. There was also the opportunity to get a henna tattoo by talented artists with a design of your choice, as well as portrait artists and a photographer.
All in all, I would really recommend attending both college and Society balls should you attend our fantastic University in the future!
