Seeing all the Christmas lights spring up around town has made me super-hyped for Christmas this year. With all the cheesy Christmas songs constantly stuck in my head, I can’t think of what better way to unleash that festive feeling than by going to as many Student Community Action (SCA) Christmas events as possible!
There are loads of SCA Volunteering events taking place over the next few weeks in both Durham and at Queens Campus, Stockton. For students who have never volunteered for a SCA project, Christmas is a perfect time to start getting involved. What’s so brilliant about volunteering is that you can help others enjoy Christmas just as much as you do! Here are details of how, where and when you Durham students are volunteering this Christmas …
Jazz and Wine Fundraising Evening
Monday 5th December
SCA is hosting a fantastic evening of music, food and wine at St. Chad’s College, Durham. The event will raise money for SCA’s projects so we would love as many students to come along as possible whether you volunteer regularly, occasionally or have never been involved with SCA before. If summatives are getting you down, or you just need warming up with a nice glass of mulled wine on a cold December evening, then this is the event for you! Tickets are just £6, including entertainment, a glass of mulled wine or non-alcoholic alternative, and a cheeseboard. All profits will go to fund SCA projects. Tickets can be bought at the SCA office in the Palatine Centre. Let’s kick off this Christmas in style!
Cash for Kids Mission Christmas
45,000 children in the North East wake up on Christmas morning to no present from Santa. We’re asking students to buy an extra present that we can give to a local disadvantaged child to make their Christmas morning special. Donate new, unwrapped gifts suitable for children and young people, aged 0-18 years, to the SCA Office in the Palatine Centre (PCL012) Durham, or the Sports Centre at Queen’s Campus. Let’s make Christmas magical for every child!
Christmas Food Drive
This year, SCA Volunteering and Staff Volunteering are joining forces to support Durham Food Bank and Durham Dogs Trust. We’re asking any staff or students who might have a spare pack of mince pies after a Christmas social to donate them to this collection. Especially anyone who is missing their dog while they are away at university and might want to help a playful puppy nearby?
You can bring in yummy Christmas treats into the SCA Office from Monday 5 – Thursday 8 December. Be a secret Santa gift giver for the local area!
