Lead institution: Durham University
This event is provisionally scheduled to take place in March 2021
Part 1 (communication skills):
Two-day residential school where researchers, via experiential learning, can hone their communication, team-working and problem-solving skills. This course will contribute to the individual development of ESRs but also enhance the cohesion of the network and so we will run this in the first year of the network, partly as a team-building exercise.
Part 2 (scientific writing):
a three-day course on scientific writing including thesis, paper and report writing, writing funding applications and writing for non-specialists audiences and the various pitfalls.
Participants will provide samples of their own writing, receive feedback as well as assessing their peers.
The workshop will incorporate elements of scientific writing for those for whom English is not their first language. Non-native English speakers will also have access to specialist support from the English Language Centre to develop their academic English language skills.
